Event Description:

One of the great hits of 2016 Cannes Film Festival

A film by: Paul Verhoeven
Cast: Isabelle Huppert, Laurent Lafitte, Anne Cosigny, Charles Berling, Virginia Efira, Judith Magre, Christian Berkel

France, Germany, Belgium | 2016 | 130 min. | Drama, Thriller | Rated R
French with English subtitles

Michèle seems indestructible. Head of a leading video game company, she brings the same ruthless attitude to her love life as to business. Being attacked in her home by an unknown assailant changes Michèle’s life forever. When she resolutely tracks the man down, they are both drawn into a curious and thrilling game—a game that may, at any moment, spiral out of control. Paul Verhoeven (Robocop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct) directs a controversial rape revenge comedy in Elle. Rape has been used in film before as a key point in a film, but never like this. Verhoeven does a fantastic job of taking a very serious subject matter and turning it into something more lighthearted. However, you can’t give Verhoeven all the credit as Isabelle Huppert does a fantastic job in portraying the ever so complex character, Michèle.

Screenplay: Philippe Djian, David Birke, Harold Manning
Producer(s):  Saïd Ben Saïd, Sébastien Delloye, Diana Elbaum
Cinematography: Stéphane Fontaine
Editor: Job ter Burg
Music: Anne Dudley
