Event Description:

Miami, Sept. 24, 2019 - Miami Dade College's (MDC) Kendall Campus Performing Arts and Industries Department presents David Ives' All in the Timing as part of its On Stage Series. This compilation of short plays runs from Thursday, Oct. 10 to Saturday, Oct. 19.  Admission is free and open to the public. Directed by Micah M. Smyth, conducted by Dr. Leo Walz and performed by MDC Kendall Campus Theater students,  All in the Timing is a collection of six one-act plays, mostly comedies, by American playwright David Ives, written between 1987 and 1993. The short plays while light and playful at times delve into the intricacies of personal relationships and the human condition, offering a fresh perspective on universal themes from first love to the meaning of life.

New to the Kendall Campus, Micah Smyth has worked in the performing arts from an early age. Having graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia, he began his career in Chicago training as a theatre technical specialist at Chicago Scenic Studios and Ravenswood Scenic. He has worked on and off stage with Collaboration Theatre Company as Artistic Associate and the Goodman Theatre Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

A well-known conductor and educator, Dr. Walz teaches music history and music theory at MDC Kendall Campus. He is the founder of The Alhambra Orchestra, Miami's longest-lived and most active community orchestra, and works in various capacities with Miami Lyric Opera.  Dr. Walz also frequently conducts in Eastern Europe and Central America. He holds a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Miami, and studied piano with Gordon DeBroder and Janet Landreth in his native Colorado.
