Afro-Latin Americans
Start Date: 10/24/2017Start Time: 9:50 AM
End Date: 10/24/2017End Time: 11:05 AM
Event Description:
“Ni de aqui ni de alla” (A histography of Afro-Latin Americans in the United States)
The history of the Atlantic world can be defined in terms of race relations. The manner in which Atlantic societies have forged these relationships has been the focus of much scholarship from both sides of the Atlantic. African diaspora, slavery and post emancipation studies dominate the literature because through these studies one can begin to trace the story of race relations in the Atlantic world. One story, that has not garnered the attention of race historians until recently, is the story of Afro-Latin Americans in the United States. It is a story that encompasses not only race, but also has cultural and class dimensions to it.
Hosted by Prof. Jairo R. Ledesma.
Sponsored by Student Life.
