Event Description:

Joe Cardona, Emmy award-winning filmmaker and editorial contributor for The Miami Herald, was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Cuban parents who settled on the island in the early 1960s, later moving to Miami. He holds a degree in mass communications from Florida International University and has directed 18 feature-length documentaries, most of which deal with issues of cultural identity and history. Among his many documentaries are Café con Leche, The Flight of Pedro Pan, Jose Marti: Legacy of Freedom; My Suitcase Full of Hope, the Story of the Cuban Freedom Flights, Celia the Queen, and Nou Bouke, Haiti's Past, Present and Future. Twelve of his documentaries have aired on PBS and throughout Europe and Latin America.
