Miami Dade College’s Padrón Campus to Host Annual Love, Grow, Learn Conference

Event Description:

Miami Dade College's (MDC) School of Education will host the annual Love, Grow, Learn Conference, Friday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. This conference is aimed to assist teachers and educational leaders at all levels who want to improve their knowledge base about learning. Working media is welcome.

This year's theme, Exciting Discoveries About the Brain and How It Learns, will offer a fast-paced interactive session that includes an overview of exciting findings from educational neuroscience and their applications to educational practice.  Participants will explore how technology is modifying the brain's attention and memory systems, thinking patterns, and our social behavior, as well as strategies that address these changes to make learning more successful. The keynote speaker is internationally recognized educational neuroscientist Dr. David Sousa. 

About Dr. David A. Sousa
An international consultant in educational neuroscience and author of more than 20 books that suggest ways that educators, parents, and organizational leaders can translate current brain research into strategies for improving learning. As a member of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society, Dr. Sousa has conducted workshops in hundreds of school districts on brain research, instructional skills, and science education at pre-K-12 and university levels. He has made presentations to more than 200,000 educators at national conventions of educational organizations and to school districts across the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. Dr. Sousa holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in science from Harvard University, and a doctorate from Rutgers University. He has taught senior high school science and has served as a K-12 director of science, supervisor of instruction, and school superintendent in New Jersey. He was an adjunct professor of education at Rutgers University and Seton Hall University for 10 years. Dr. Sousa has been featured on NBC's Today Show, on National Public Radio and on other programs about his work with schools using brain research. He holds honorary doctorates from Bridgewater State University (Mass.) and Gratz College in Pennsylvania.
