End Date: 11/7/2017End Time: 12:45 PM
Event Description:

The acclaimed Holocaust and Genocide Education Program (HGEP) at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Homestead Campus will once again host Kristallnacht Remembrance event on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 11:15 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Special guests include Dr. Thomas Bryant, Commissioner for Integration Policy from the District Office of Marzahn-Hellesdroft; Turkish Consul General, Burç Ceylan; Dr. Peter Tarjan, Holocaust survivor and retired chair from the University of Miami’s Department of Biomedical Engineering; Kurlet Inaloez and Jascha Amery from the German Consulate.
Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, was a series of organized attacks against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and part of Austria in 1938. The attacks left the streets covered with broken glass from the windows of Jewish-owned stores and buildings, hence the name. Approximately 91 Jews were killed in the attacks, and another 30,000 were arrested and sent to concentration camps.

The first Kristallnacht remembrance event at MDC was established in 2008. The program’s mission is to increase the global awareness of the Holocaust and Genocide.
