A touching true story about love and perseverance
Tower Theater’s Exclusive Engagement

A film by Aisling Walsh
Cast: Ethan Hawke, Sally Hawkins, Kari Matchett

Ireland, Canada | 2016 | 115 min | Drama, Romance | PG-13
English with Spanish subtitles

, based on a true story, is an improbable romance in which the reclusive fisherman Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) hires a delicate yet determined woman named Maudie (Sally Hawkins) to be his housekeeper. Maudie, lively yet hunched with crippled hands, yearns for independence, to live away from her over-protective and unloving family, and she also yearns, passionately, to be an artist despite her arthritis. Unexpectedly but gradually, Everett finds himself falling in love. Maudie charts Everett's efforts to collapse the wall of emotional coldness he’s built himself, Maudie's rooted and abiding love for this difficult man, and her slow and surprising rise to the lime-light as a folk painter.

“Aisling Walsh's shimmering drama hands Sally Hawkins an Oscar-worthy role in an emotional and inspirational biopic about art, love and this cruel beautiful world of ours.” - Thelma Adams, New York Observer | full review

“This is a painter whose canvas was her life, and whose life her canvas. Maudie is a magnificent celebration of both.” – Chris Knight, National Post | full review

“The story offers many opportunities for glibness and sentimentality. Walsh falls for none of them.” - Peter Keough, Boston Globe | full review

Maudie is not the kind of movie that needs much to prove itself as poignant, it’s the kind of film that does just fine giving us a glimpse into a humble life of someone who lived it to the fullest.” – Tina Hassannia, Roger Ebert
