Paintings by Gerardo Olhovich |
|
Event Description: Gerardo Olhovich works within traditional techniques of oil and acrylic
painting. In this exhibition of ambitious paintings, Olhovich makes a
range of his recent works available for public view, some for the first
time. In Funalo, one of his earlier works, abstract non-objective spaces
seem to wrestle with more figurative shapes for dominance. This creates
a welcomed tension in the mind’s eye as the viewer is forced to
reconcile the spatial ambiguity that this creates. Painted more
recently, Snoopy shows the playfulness required to create. In this
painting, broad swaths of bright reds and dark grays swoop around the
center but remain balanced by the artist’s control and sensitivity to
the edges of the composition. Olhovich is an artist whose works draw the
viewer in and invites them to see and experience the visceral nature of
paint. |
