Thais M. Alvarez
graduated from Florida International University with a B.A. in
International Relations, a B.S. in Secondary Social Studies
Education and a certificate in Caribbean Studies. After teaching the
social sciences for several years, she returned to school to obtain
her J.D., with honors, from Nova Southeastern University Shepard
Broad Law Center. At the Law Center, she received the Scholarship
Tax Recognition Award and was also invited to join the Nova Law
Review where she was appointed the Executive Editor of the Nova Law
Review. While at the Law Center, and in conjunction with the Nova
Southeastern University School of Business, Thais also obtained a
Master of Accounting in 2002. After her admission to the Florida Bar
in 2002, Thais continued her legal education at Georgetown
University Law Center in Washington D.C., where she obtained an LL.M.
in Taxation in 2003. Upon completion of her studies, Thais worked as
a tax attorney. She also worked at Koç University, located in
Istanbul, Turkey, teaching Legal English and Writing. Thais is also
a member of the Washington, D.C. bar, and is fluent in Spanish.
