Miami Dade College Museum of Art and Design in collaboration with MDC’s Tower Theater and The Bill Cosford Cinema at the University of Miami, is pleased to announce the Living Together Film Series, a program of films spread across ten nights over the next six months.  The films will be screened on selected Thursdays from September 2017 to April 2018. Screenings are free and open to the public; admission will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Living Together’s documentary and fiction films survey the dizzying political landscape of contemporary American cinema.  The films explore notions of manhood, nationhood, and political, spiritual, and poetic freedom.  Academy-nominated films, festival selections, and independently-minded productions come together in a program that aspires to change audiences’ strongly held convictions, acquired behaviors, and habits associated with the consumption of moving images.

The curator of the Living Together Film Series is Konstantia Kontaxis, Associate Dean of Research and Interim Director of the Center for Communication, Culture and Change at the University of Miami School of Communication.

Whose Streets? (2017), 90 minutes
Told by the activists and leaders who live and breathe this movement for justice, Whose Streets? is an unflinching look at the Ferguson uprising. When unarmed teenager Michael Brown is killed by police and left lying in the street for hours, it marks a breaking point for the residents of St. Louis, Missouri. Grief, long-standing racial tensions, and renewed anger bring residents together to hold vigil and protest this latest tragedy. Empowered parents, artists, and teachers from around the country come together as freedom fighters. As the National Guard descends on Ferguson with military-grade weaponry, these young community members become the torchbearers of a new resistance.
