A Powerful Story of Courage and Remembrance in the Aftermath of Guatemala’s Civil War That Won Two Major Prizes at Cannes

Guatemala’s bloody civil war is little-talked about, but the two-decade conflict which started in the 1970’s claimed 200,000 victims — most of them indigenous and countless of which remain without closure, the victims’ bodies not yet identified. Against this backdrop, Cesar Diaz’s searing debut feature is a powerful call for remembrance and action.

As the whole country of Guatemala is immersed in the trial of soldiers who sparked the country’s dark and horrific civil war, one young anthropologist continues his grueling work for the Forensic Anthropology Foundation identifying the war’s victims, often buried in unidentified mass graves. When he discovers a lead that could guide him to his father, a guerrillero who went missing during the war, he sets out against his mother’s wishes on an all-consuming mission to find the truth.

Winner of the prestigious and highly coveted Camera d’Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Diaz’s powerful and emotionally-charged drama promises an exciting career to come. Visit for tickets.
