Throughout the summer term, Linares will create new work and engage with students, campus groups, and members of the public.

Amanda Linares (Havana, 1989) is a Cuban-born visual artist who currently lives and works in Miami. Her work expands like branches, utilizing an immense variety of media, from design and drawing to installation and photography. She holds a technical degree in printmaking from San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana and a BFA in graphic design from New World School of the Arts in Miami.

Influenced by literature and spatial awareness, Amanda’s work incorporates poetic language while exploring narrative and/or spatial elements through the use of reflection, transparency, revelation, found objects, and typographical solutions. Although her work is constantly evolving, it intimately explores a range of universal themes, including identity, displacement, absence, and reconnection. Since receiving her degree, the artist has exhibited at Deering Estate, Frost Art Museum FIU, Orlando Museum of Art, and Oolite Arts, among other venues.

The five artists featured in this exhibition are Lynne Golob Gelfman, Pat Lipsky, Emilio Sanchez, Xaviera Simmons, and Purvis Young. Each of these American artists produced distinctive bodies of work that allow for rumination on the human condition. Whether it be work that represents land or evokes land, compositions that literally present text or conjure unique storytelling, or art that considers visual perception and how light and color coalesce, this exhibition invites unexpected dialogue about American art.

This exhibition is organized in support of the America250 celebrations at Miami Dade College and nationwide. This exhibition joins other projects organized by the MOAD team, including Purvis Young: Out of the Vault and Abstraction as Legacy as a part of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the formal establishment of the United States of America.

Applications are now open for House of Twelve, a new participatory game show-style performance from Live Arts Miami's signature community program, Live Arts Labs Alliance.

The experience draws inspiration from classic social deduction games. Through hidden roles, shifting alliances, and collective decision-making, participants shape the performance in real time as every conversation, vote, and unexpected twist influences what happens next.

Through exhibition-making and public programming centered on the archives of Purvis Young, each panelist has engaged Young’s work as a lens through which to consider broader questions of artistic legacy, memory, and archival practice in Miami.

This panel will examine their distinct cultural frameworks and consider how artist legacies shape and are shaped by archival practices in the city. In doing so, the discussion highlights how their perspectives illuminate different dimensions of Young’s practice. The conversation will explore which aspects of Young’s visual language, material choices, and thematic concerns informed their creative processes. It will also reflect on how his work offers a lens for understanding memory, place, and archives in Miami, as well as how his practice occupied and transformed space within South Florida art contexts.

Collectively, the panel situates Young’s legacy within Miami’s evolving art historical canon, foregrounding his continued relevance to the city’s cultural and social landscape.

By engaging these voices, the program invites audiences to encounter Young’s practice through layered perspectives, revealing the many ways his work speaks to Miami’s histories of migration, resilience, spirituality, race, and urban change.

Romina (Romi) began practicing yoga back in 2017, the physical aspect of yoga served as a launch pad and she quickly fell in love with the practice and aimed to explore many different types of yoga. A practice that was a hobby quickly turned into a passion. Her love of yoga pushed Romina to pursue her 200-hr yoga teacher training in Orlando, FL and she now teaches in many different areas in Miami. Romina enjoys teaching vinyasa flow and gentle flows with creative transitions, focusing on strengths, stability and alignment.

Whether you are a beginner or advance practitioner, using movement and breathwork, rest assure you'll leave feeling transformed in all aspects of the mind, body, and spirit.

The five artists featured in this exhibition are Lynne Golob Gelfman, Pat Lipsky, Emilio Sanchez, Xaviera Simmons, and Purvis Young. Each of these American artists produced distinctive bodies of work that allow for rumination on the human condition. Whether it be work that represents land or evokes land, compositions that literally present text or conjure unique storytelling, or art that considers visual perception and how light and color coalesce, this exhibition invites unexpected dialogue about American art.

All artwork needs to be prepared for display (i.e. canvas, framed) upon submission. The submissions should

The five artists featured in this exhibition are Lynne Golob Gelfman, Pat Lipsky, Emilio Sanchez, Xaviera Simmons, and Purvis Young. Each of these American artists produced distinctive bodies of work that allow for rumination on the human condition. Whether it be work that represents land or evokes land, compositions that literally present text or conjure unique storytelling, or art that considers visual perception and how light and color coalesce, this exhibition invites unexpected dialogue about American art.

This exhibition is organized in support of the America250 celebrations at Miami Dade College and nationwide. This exhibition joins other projects organized by the MOAD team, including Purvis Young: Out of the Vault and Abstraction as Legacy as a part of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the formal establishment of the United States of America.
