Art exhibition by ‘7 Plus One Art Project’ to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. In 2010, founder and artistic director Emilio Hector Rodriguez created a project with abstract artists in the community who shared the same sensibility and reflected their interest in abstract work. The original group in this collaborative consisted of five artists, and now numbers up to 14 artists. Artists of various cultures, ethnicities, experiences, generations, genders, and religions. Some of the artists have been formally trained in Art History and Visual Arts, while others come from different professional fields such as Psychology, Medicine, Education, Journalism, Mathematics and Cybemetic. In 2012, the group became known as ‘7 Plus One Art Project’. The artworks included in this exhibit are produced by using pencil and or charcoal on paper to encourage the viewer to note similarities between abstract artists and identify the many paths that may develop from a similar starting language. Lines and forms are central elements and act as both a start and end point in this series. Pencil is the protagonist in each work and leaves room for viewers to interpret their very own vision.
