The invited experts will cover topics like how to put together a successful portfolio, how to connect with local art institutions, how do artist build their networks, and what opportunities for graduate education exist in Miami. This series of lecture-conversations are organized in the spirit of helping students to build their tribe and their art communities. Chire “VantaBlack” Regans Artist and Social Justice Activist and O. Gustavo Plascencia, NWSA Dean Visual Arts, will explore the nature of personal artwork and the unavoidable, at times, political ramifications of the artists positionality in life. When postmodern artists use individual/personal narratives to make a commentary to the current sociopolitical reality, they use the micro to talk about the macro and vice versa. The invited experts will delve into a candid conversation on how artist connect with each other and find community. They will also explore ways to connect with local art institutions and how find support when things get too personal or political.
