Audience: Faculty

One of MDC’s goals is to ensure presentation of learning content in different modalities and formats that suit the needs of diverse learners. It’s imperative that learning content is designed to meet current content accessibility guidelines and delivered to learners in a format they can use. Accessibility has been a focus at our institution, complying with the law while also supporting and encouraging faculty to adopt principles of universal design for learning (UDL). We are challenged by needing to meet the legal ADA compliance standards while also ensuring the intended benefits of UDL. In this workshop, participants will learn about the UDL principles, use the Ally tool built in MDC LMS to check course content for accessibility issues, and utilize accessibility tools to create more accessible content.

After successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the benefits of universal design
  • Discuss the importance of designing accessible content (meet the legal ADA compliance standards while also ensuring the intended benefits of Universal Design)
  • Review accessibility guidelines
  • Check course content for accessibility issues
  • Create alternative accessible versions of course content
  • Identify and utilize accessibility tools to create more accessible content
  • Discuss best instructional practices to enhance the teaching and learning process

This is a self-paced, fully online workshop.
