Introduction to Project-Based Learning at MDC is an in-depth introduction to best practice, Gold-Standard qualities of and Miami Dade Colleges definition of project-based learning in order to advance the institutionalization of project-based learning as a high-impact, pedagogical practice at Miami Dade College. Strategies for identifying project ideas and the roles of MDC resource areas for project-based learning projects will also be addressed.
After successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Name and define the components of the Buck Institute’s Gold Standard for Project-Based Learning
- Summarize the definition of project-based learning at Miami Dade College
- Enumerate scholarly evidence in support of the effectiveness of project-based learning pedagogical experiences for student engagement and retention
- Discuss the roles of varied Miami Dade College’s resource areas (e.g., Learning Resources, IMPACT / Changemaking, the Institute of Civic Engagement
- Outline and present, in a poster session for workshop co-participants, a project-based learning assignment plan for a current course or program
