#documentaryfilmMiami Dade College’s Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives presents the premiere of their new video series, Tales from the Vault, where long-hidden stories from within their archival news collections are uncovered, on Thursday, August 15 at 6:30pm at MDC’s North Campus Room 2147. Following the screening, special guest speaker HistoryMiami Museum Resident Historian Dr. Paul George dives into the history of bolita gambling in South Florida.
The series’ first episode, The Dora Pinder Murder, pieced together original newsfilm footage, news scripts, and local newspaper coverage to tell the story of what happened in August 1952 after Dora Pinder, the wife of Miami’s notorious bolita gambling baron Howard Pinder, was murdered in their home.
This event is co-sponsored by HistoryMiami Museum and is presented with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
