It is OK not to be OK. However, in the Hispanic community, there is a disconnect between mental health resources and the people who need them. This event is designed to raise awareness, connect, and identify community resources available to MDC students. The panel includes Mercy Macrina from ACCESS: A Comprehensive Center for Exceptional Student Services, Thomas Jardon from the Citrus Health Network, and Adrian Marin from the Suicide Prevention Hotline.

Mercy Macrina received her Master of Science in Education from Nova Southeastern University. She has worked in disability services at Miami Dade College for 21 years and is passionate about helping students with varying abilities achieve their goals.

Thomas Jardon is the Director of Housing for Citrus Health Network, Inc. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Law Degree (JD) from the University of Florida. He recently completed his Master’s in Social Work from Fordham University. Mr. Jardon has worked at Citrus for over a decade, managing programs that serve people struggling with mental illness, experiencing homelessness, or living with HIV. He will soon join MDC’s Hialeah Campus as an Adjunct Professor.

Margaret Di Gennaro leads the MDC HELPS Suicide Prevention program. The program creates workshops and trainings to encourage help-seeking behaviors, educate on mental health and provide resources. Ms. Di Gennaro provided trainings to over 3,000 participants at Miami Dade College and the Miami Dade County community. She is now serving as the Director of Veterans Upward Bound, a program that helps  veterans prepare for college. Ms. Di Gennaro’s has a MS in Higher Education Administration and a BS in International Relations and Spanish.

Adrian Marin received his Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Florida International University, graduating in July 2020. He currently serves as a Helpline Training Manager and Clinician with Jewish Community Services of South Florida.
