NWSA Dance Celebrates Black History Month at Miami Dade College presents dance works by five talented New World School of the Arts student choreographers, along with an excerpt from Professor Peter London's majestic work, African Savannah. These works include dances created for film, such as Melissa Gonzalez' powerful seaside work, Raices and Lauryn LaPread's collaboration with filmmakers Jennifer Ima, LoLaRice which is a lyrical trio set to music by Masego and Marvin Gaye. Nayah Merisier's dance film, Pou Mwen is a stirring solo for this eloquent dancer/choreographer also filmed by Jennifer Ima and set to Wongolo by Grupo Vocal Desandann and Vodou by St. Jacques. Two powerful works complete the program - Pablo Ortiz-Figueroa's collaborative dance film work featuring eleven performers, Guataqui, and Ashanti Miller's powerful solo for dancer Alexander Campbell, Black Men Don't Cry, set to Runnin' Away by Blood Orange, Ian Isiah & Jason Arce.
The program is approximately 30 minutes in length and is appropriate for all audiences.
