For this collaboration, the New World School of the Arts visual arts students were asked to (re)frame the archive and to explore the Vizcaya gardens and Museum’s archive of images, consider the context surrounding the Vizcayan Dream. Vizcaya embodies the desire to achieve and experience the highest standards of art and design by its makers. James Deering, one of the wealthiest men in the United States, embarked on this project with a seamlessly unlimited supply of money and resources. This was the gilded age, a time of vast income disparity, deep racial injustice, and wide-ranging social inequality. The students received a tour of the grounds and heard its history before they created their artworks.
