Miambiance is an award-winning literature and arts magazine, published once a year by the
English and Communications Department. All works in the magazine are created, designed, and
edited solely by students. The decision about works selected for publication is made by a panel of
students for each category. Since its inaugural volume in 1989, Miambiance has won over 600
awards from local and national media organizations, including the coveted Associate Collegiate
Press Pinnacle Award and the College Media Association Pacemaker Award, which is considered
the Pulitzer Prize of college media. Since 2017, Miambiance has been under the advisement of
Rita Fernandez-Sterling and Tony Chirinos. Currently, we are accepting submissions for poetry,
prose, visual arts, photography, music, and film. If you are interested in submitting your works,

Members of the Miambiance Vol. 34 staff will recite selected poetry and prose that resonate with
this year’s theme. Readings will include poetry by Maya Angelo, Amanda Gorman, and Rita Dove
and excerpts from works by Nathan Harris, Toni Morrison, and many more contemporary African
American artists.
