Patrick Anderson Jr. was born in Miami to Jamaican immigrants who relocated to the city in the
late seventies. His short stories have appeared in numerous literary journals, magazines, and
anthologies. Patrick received his B.A. in English from Florida State University and his M.F.A. in
Creative writing from University of Central Florida. He is currently a Creative Writing Professor
at Miami Dade College where he has taught for over a decade. In his spare time, Patrick records
and produces music under the stage name Autonomous Entity.
In "Harlem Renaissance: A Lasting Cultural Legacy" Patrick Anderson Jr. will discuss how the
cultural and artistic growth that took place in Harlem during the 1920s created a legacy of artistic
prominence within the black community not just in Harlem but across the country. The
presentation will also discuss the sociopolitical impact of the Harlem Renaissance in the context
of race, identity, and political contributions from leaders of the time period.
